Audre Lorde
African-American Poetess szenische Lesung in Englisch

Audre Lorde (1934-1992) was born in Harlem of West Indian parents and grew up in Brooklyn. After education she became involved with the "gay-girl" culture in Greenwich Village, New York, and affirmed herself fully as a poet. A Black lesbian socialist mother and member of an interracial couple, Audre Lorde cried out against racial and sexual oppression in her writings. She faced the despair of an approaching death, revealing in "The Cancer Journals" (1980) triumphant aspects of the 14 year struggle against breast cancer that she eventually lost. Through poetry, prose and speeches, Audre Lorde devoted herself to celebrating all elements of her identity. She showed that there is strength in difference, and that anger is an emotion which creates movement.
